SteveMarsdin Posted 9 November , 2014 Share Posted 9 November , 2014 BBC Countryfile this evening was dedicated to the Great War, with the regular presenters tracing the participation of some of their ancestors. It included a piece with GWF member, Jim Smithson, providing guidance. It's on i-player if you missed it.
Mark Hone Posted 9 November , 2014 Share Posted 9 November , 2014 Even Mrs H., who dislikes several of the presenters, had to admit that the Remembrance Sunday edition of Countryfile was pretty good, including visits to the CWGC workshop in Arras and features on the Iron Harvest, messenger dogs and the Wellington tunnels amongst others. There was a remarkably caustic section of the latest edition of Radio 4's 'From Our Own Correspondent' about attempts to cash in on the current boom in battlefield tourism in Ieper. The BBC journalist did not present the local business folk in a very positive light.
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 10 November , 2014 Share Posted 10 November , 2014 I was interested to watch Countryfile, because it had a running Holt Caterpillar Tractor, of the sort that my Grandfather would have driven whilst in MT Companies working out of Siege Parks. There can't be many running examples in the UK. I've heard of one in a museum in Suffolk. Does anyone know of any others?
