Remembered Today:

Pte WE Markey and AB A Bashford

Recommended Posts

Belatedly remembering here Walter Eric Markey and Alfred Bashford, the first two members of the Surrey Assoicaiton of Church Bell Ringers to die in the war. Markey with 1/QUEENS at Gheluvelt on 31 October 1914, Bashford aboard HMS Good Hope at Coronel on 1 November 1914.

The centenary of Bashford's death was marked with a quarter peal at Nutfield. his home tower, just as his death was a century ago.
