johnnie Posted 2 November , 2014 Share Posted 2 November , 2014 Dear all. Could any members tell me where the 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers were during the first few days of January 1917? I'm trying to find out more about the loss of two men who were killed on the 3rd January, and are commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Any help would be great, Johnnie
Colin W Taylor Posted 3 November , 2014 Share Posted 3 November , 2014 Johnnie The war diary doesn't say, nor does it provide and details for 1-4 Jan except for 'in trenches' - except for stating the MO going on leave. The diary records an officer and 6 men killed during the month, 12 men wounded and one officer DoW. If you want to check for yourself it can be found at reference WO95/1821 on the National Archives Website. Kind regards Colin
johnnie Posted 3 November , 2014 Author Share Posted 3 November , 2014 Colin. Many thanks for the reply. I had assumed the casualties may have been a result of general losses while in the trenches, so many thanks for confirming that. Johnnie
