Percy Nathaniel Brooks Swann, 1887-1963, born and died in Great Yarmouth. Attested 11th December 1915 at Ealing and served as Corporal of Horse 2625 in Royal Horse Guards and later in Guards Machine Gun Regiment as Corporal of Horse 5875. I believe the Royal Horse Guards made up the 3rd battalion of Guards Machine Gun Regiment.

His brother Sydney Clifford Swann served in the Royal Horse Artillery and died in Syria 1918, he has a separate topic.

Also Percy's brother-in-law also served in the same RHA battery.

Percy's attestation document is online but at the top of the form there is a handwritten line crossed out which reads...

"R.H.A. *obscured word* City of London Yeomanry".

Did Percy try and apply for, or transfer to, the RHA where he had family connections?

Can any member please advise or give guidance on interpreting this information.

He was my maternal grandfather and I have recently obtained his war and medal records. To my knowledge he did not apply to transfer.

Many thanks for your message. Percy is on a distant branch of my family tree.

Best wishes John
