john darling Posted 26 October , 2014 Share Posted 26 October , 2014 My grandfather served in the above as a driver and Saddler, his regiment number was L36270, date of enlistment 24th January 1915, discharge in 27 September 1917 because of illness. I would love to know where he was in France and which battles he was involved in. I have been unable to find out any information on the RFA 20th Reserves. Any help please would be very much appreciated.
David Porter Posted 26 October , 2014 Share Posted 26 October , 2014 John, If you look at the Silver War Badge list that is mentioned on his Medal Card you will see that he was discharged from 2a Reserve Brigade. This was a Home unit at Fulwood Barracks, Preston. His enlistment date is actually July 24, 1915. His number seems to tie in with those joining 180th (West Ham) Brigade, the L prefix denoting a locally raised brigade. They arrived in France in February 1916 and joined 16th (Irish) Division.
