Raster Scanning Posted 3 May , 2003 Share Posted 3 May , 2003 This is the original marker to the grave of Benjamin Skevington who I am currently researching. His grave is Plot 1. Row A. Grave 2. Does this mean he was the second man buried in this cemetary? If anyone is ever in the vicinity of this cemetary I would be extremely grateful for a picture of his current stone. Skevington was from St Sepulchre's in Northants and lived at 32 East St, Northampton before the war. I have a few of his pictures, sent to his young son Albert. Thanks
Terry Denham Posted 3 May , 2003 Share Posted 3 May , 2003 His grave number may or may not mean he was second to be buried there. The plots, rows and graves were usually designated after the war when the cemeteries were taken over by IWGC from the army and 'sorted out'. The plots were then allocated in a logical way considering the plan of the cemetery (sometimes not!)
Raster Scanning Posted 3 May , 2003 Author Share Posted 3 May , 2003 Thanks Terry. I knew it could not be that simple!
ianw Posted 3 May , 2003 Share Posted 3 May , 2003 It seems this cemetery of only 100 or so men was started in April 1918 so I suppose he must have been among the first to be interred there.
