Don't know if it helps or muddies the water.

The familysearch website has a "Form of Information of a Death" (Transvaal) of a Doctor David Melville, aged 38, married, born Scotland and normally resident Driefontein Hill, Boksburg, who died at Boksburg Hospital on the 16th November 1919. Can't make out the whole Causes of Death, but looks like it ends "perhaps malarial origin". The intended place of burial was Boksburg Cemetery. This information was given by the undertaker.

There is however a Death Notice for a David Scott Melville, aged 49, a Doctor of Medicine, born Dundee and normally resident Boksburg, who died at Boksburg Hospital on the 16th November 1919.

Looks like a typo on the date of death from IFCP announcement. Can you send me an e mail reminder of this one please as I cannot submit anything to CWGC until the 29th Jan

While I still have it open in front of me and so I don't forget, his South African death notice wasn't approved until May 1928. It records him as aged 24 and on active service at the date of his death. That was in action at Cuydas Puts, S.W. Africa, however the date is stated to be the 17th January 1915.

CWGC is showing the 18th January 1915. https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/75450798/robert-miles/

@chrisharley9

The familysearch website has a burial register for Maitland Road Cemetery, Cape Town, which shows John Hunter Mitchell, aged 30, was buried on the 6th June 1917 in the Inner site in Grave 576 A. His last address was given as Roberts Heights, Pretoria. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPHY-SQWL

His South African Form of Information of a Death shows him as 31 years old. A married man, his occupation is shown as “Soldier Clerk”, although the I suspect the latter was his civilian job. Cause of death is shown as Haemorrhage due to Phthisis, an illness he had had for at least 7 years. He died on the 2nd June 1917 at Roberts Heights, Pretoria. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:7YR5-BMT2

Both images courtesy of familysearch.

He was (probably) born in South Africa on the 27th October 1886. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DB74-KP2M

He (probably) married a Kristofa Hartmann at Cape Town on the 19th April 1914. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6ZH5-M926

Hope that helps,
Peter
