dennisgr Posted 28 September , 2014 Share Posted 28 September , 2014 Hello All, On 25th April 1918 my great-uncle, Pte. 242407 Frank Barker was taken prisoner whilst serving with the 1/6th Bn. West Yorkshire Regt.He recorded this fact a 1918 'Boots' diary - "Taken prisoner about 5.30 am in the Camille Sector ...". I have learned from Wyrall's 'West Yorkshire Regiment in the War, 1914 -1918' that on 25th April 1918 the 1/6th Bn. was occupying a section of trench just north of 'White Sheets' from the S-E perimeter of Grand Bois, past Onreat Farm and into Zero Wood. From the few trench maps of the area and period that I have been able to access on line, I cannot see anywhere marked 'Camille Sector'. Has anyone out there heard of it? The engagement in which Frank was involved later became known as the Second Battle of Kemmel. I wonder, therefore, if 'Camille' was a mis-heard 'Kemmel'. Best Wishes, Dennis.
