Glengarry1950 Posted 8 October , 2014 Author Share Posted 8 October , 2014 I have now received my copy of this very informative book of local lads that went to War and never returned. I have a slight query on the first individual covered in the book, Lieutenant John Young Barr 7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, he was known as "Jack" to his family and friends and died on the 25th April 1915 at St Julien, near Ypers. ( although its 26th on the MIC), he is commemorated on the Ypers Memorial at the Menin Gate and monumental inscriptions in both Paisley's Woodside Cemetery and Strathblane churchyard, his name appears on no fewer than four war memorials : Strathblane, Milngavie, Kelvinside Academy and finally Christ Church College, Oxford. MY QUERY IS : He is pictured in uniform with what appears to be the MC ribbon on his tunic there is no mention of this in his chapter in the book and on checking his MIC on Ancestry there is no mention of an MC being awarded just the WW1 Trio, I have also looked at awards section on a Ancestry WW1 nothing. I cant post the photograph as it would be a breach of the books copy right. Am I missing something ? Kind regards Hiram
Glengarry1950 Posted 15 October , 2014 Author Share Posted 15 October , 2014 Hi Troops,I have now received conformation from Lt Barr's family which was discovered to late to be put in the book, the medal ribbon worn in the photograph (see attached) is the King George V Coronation Medal Ribbon as he was a Colour Sergeant in Rossall OTC and was the right hand marker at the coronation review of the OTC.RegardsHiram
