In one case, from £5.99 post free to £21.99 + £1.71 for brand new copies, the former being about half what my publisher would charge me!

My experience as a bookseller is that it is not at all unusual for authors to buy their own books- usually cheaper than buying on "author terms" from their publisher.. Drole de guerre.....

I bought a couple of hundred copies of my book from the publisher, then had to go through a lot of trouble to get him to pay royalties on normal sales.

Eventually, I realised that he hadn't chased me to pay him, so I didn't; and he still hasn't noticed! I reckon we ended up about even.
