doogal Posted 27 October , 2004 Share Posted 27 October , 2004 Hi Dave, I have two look-ups for you if it's OK - the other is on your Green Howards posting. I think the Lincolnshire Regiment went into the front line between Bucquoy and Rossignol Wood on 31st March/1st April 1918. Do you have any accounts of this at all? Unfortunately, I don't know which part of the Lincs regiment this was. My interest is because I am reseaching the 2/5th Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment, who I think they relieved. with thanks doogal

KONDOA Posted 29 October , 2004 Share Posted 29 October , 2004 Dave, This is so insignificant I doubt it is mentioned, but!! Is there any inference of men being transferred to the North Stafford Regiment by any chance. Roop
jimmyjames Posted 30 October , 2004 Share Posted 30 October , 2004 Dave I wonder if you might have any info on 1/4th Bn at Gommercourt on 1 July 1916, particularly on Lt Col Henry Gardner (ex 9th Bn), who was wounded. He died of illness on 28th October 1918 and is buried in Cheltenham Cemetery. Many thanks Jimmy

You'll have to give me an idea of when this happened Roop, otherwise I've no chance of finding any possible reference. Dave.

Hi Dave, A largish number were transferred and served in Ireland. This therefore had to be before April 1916 and may well have been late 1915 when 59 Div were preparing for France. Still a bit vague I know, but that is one of the reasons for asking the question Roop
jimmyjames Posted 30 October , 2004 Share Posted 30 October , 2004 Dave Many thanks for the info on the 1/4th. Looks as if I'll have to re-check my original sources regarding Lt Col Gardner. Regards Jimmy

doogal Posted 22 November , 2004 Share Posted 22 November , 2004 Hi Dave, I've done a little more research on this, and for info, it appears to have been the 8th Lincolnshire Regiment that took the line - apparently they were ordered to assault a place called Rossignol Wood in early April 1918. regards doogal
