Heid the Ba Posted 2 September , 2014 Share Posted 2 September , 2014 I have a friend who is completing a book on the church in the Great War and would like the cover to be an illustration (photo or painting) of troops in a church in the UK. Does anyone know of such a thing? Thanks in advance.
seaJane Posted 2 September , 2014 Share Posted 2 September , 2014 I don't, and they will charge for the use of it, but your best bet for actually finding such a thing may be the Imperial War Museum photographic collection. Or possibly here: http://www.illustratedfirstworldwar.com/
Heid the Ba Posted 3 September , 2014 Author Share Posted 3 September , 2014 I think he has looked at the IWM, and paying for it isn't a problem. The Illustrated London News archive is great and I have passed it on. Thanks.
keithfazzani Posted 3 September , 2014 Share Posted 3 September , 2014 There is a Daily Mail postcard in the series of Official War Photographs Series XI No 85 readily available in facsimile copies it is in fact entitled The King at the Front but is taken in a hall rigged for church with troops in attendance. Heid the Ba Posted 4 September , 2014 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2014 Thanks Keith, I'll have a look but he wants the illustration to be in a church in the UK, as that is the focus of the book. There is one of Intercession Day in the ILN archive which fits the bill. Thanks to both for the tips.
