domsim Posted 26 October , 2004 Share Posted 26 October , 2004 I am doing a bit of research on air support for the Arab Revolt in the Hejaz 1916-1918. I have two serial numbers from a log book which are described as Nieuports, they are: 1693 6773 both were apparently at Aqaba at the end of March 1918 as practice aircraft (did they do proper conversion courses then or was it just take one up and get the feel of it?!) Does anybody have any details of mark etc. In April 1918 2 Nieuports were delivered as permanent additions to the squadron B1566 (a Nieuport 17, famously Bishop's old plane) B1654 (a Nieuport 11?) Any information gratefully received. Thanks. Dominic
Dolphin Posted 26 October , 2004 Share Posted 26 October , 2004 Dominic I think the aircraft you're interested in would have been B1693 and A6773. Both were Nieuports (the types aren't specified in my reference) in batches of aircraft bought in France by GHQ BEF. The batches were: A6601-A6800 (Morane LA and other Parasols, various Nieuports and SPAD VIIs) and B1497-B1700 (Nieuports, SPAD VIIs and at least a couple of Morane LAs). That's not much help, but perhaps it's useful. Gareth
