I agree that it's a puzzle. I can only suggest that by the time it was built the front had been pushed sufficiently far back for the French to feel that it wasn't in much danger anyway. I don't know at what period of 1917 it was built but there may have been an element of morale-boosting in it's construction. Christina Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
