k2ndr Posted 23 August , 2014 Share Posted 23 August , 2014 Hi, I have two medal cards of my Grandfather James Oliver who seems to have been in 3 separate units with 3 separate numbers as follows:- 16 Lancers - 28253 West Kent Regiment - 7078 Royal Engineers - 193258 On the medal card by the Royal Engineers is the following - RE/101 B 113 I have tried to get his record sheet with no avail. Can anyone explain the RE bit, any info would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Keith
johnboy Posted 23 August , 2014 Share Posted 23 August , 2014 RE/101 B 113 Shows the medal roll number for the two medals awarded by RE, The card which shows the Star could also be RE but the writing is not that clear.
Phil Evans Posted 23 August , 2014 Share Posted 23 August , 2014 The roll on the second card is RE 3C4 page 607. The roll is at Kew in WO 329/2592 Phil PS Ancestry.co.uk is free this weekend and you will find both sides of the cards in high-res colour - much easier on the eyes than the NA versions, although the backs of both are blank.
