Thanks very much for these links. I have downloaded the 20 volumes on the RAN website. They consists of vols i-xix in the list provided by Felix above plus an unnumbered one that includes a number of monographs. It is a very big file that I had problems downloading until I switched from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox. All but the first of these are also included in one of the other volumes:

'13 'Grand Fleet August 1914 - November 1916'

'14. First Australian Convoy.1914'

'16. China Squadron, 1914 (including Emden Hunt'

'17. East Indies Squadron, 1914', '20 Cape of Good Hope Squadron, 1914'

'18. Dover Command 1'

'19. Tenth Cruiser Squadron I'

'25. The Baltic 1914.'

I have searched various library's online catalogue for the other volumes. Some are available at the UK National Archives in series ADM 186. The only one that I have found in the NA website that is not on the RAN website linked by Felix above, except for History of the White Sea Station in ADM 186/611.

The British Library's India Office Records include vols iv & v.

The National Library of Australia has only vols i-xix. The Imperial War Museum lists those 19, but does not have vol. iii. The Caird Library at the National Maritime Museum's collection is incomplete.

Given the difficulty of finding the others, I do wonder if the later ones were planned but never actually written? The Review of German Cruiser Warfare linked by Felix in post 4 above was not published until 1940.

The list below of the volumes on the RAN website is Felix's original with the addition of the monograph numbers from MartH's post above:

vol. i, '1. Coronel', '2. German Cruiser Squadron in the Pacific', '3. Falklands', '4. Goeben and Breslau'.

vol. ii '10. East Africa to July 1916', '5. Cameroons 1914'.

vol. iii '6. Passage of BEF', '7. Patrol Flotillas at Commencement of War', '8. Raid on North-East Coast December 16 1914', '11. Heligoland Bight 1914, Aug. 28 1914', '12. Dogger Bank, January 24 1915.'

vol. iv, '15. Mesopotamia and Persian Gulf'.

vol. v, '14. First Australian Convoy.1914', '16. China Squadron, 1914 (including Emden Hunt', '17. East Indies Squadron, 1914', '20 Cape of Good Hope Squadron, 1914'.

vol. vi, '18. Dover Command 1'.

vol. vii, '19. Tenth Cruiser Squadron I', '25. The Baltic 1914'.

vol. viii, '21. Mediterranean 1914-1915'.

vol. ix, '22. Atlantic 1914', '23. Atlantic 1915', '27. Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands',

vol. x, '23. Home Waters Part I August 1914'.

vol. xi, '24. Home Waters Part II September and October 1914'.

vol. xii, '28. Home Waters Part III November 1914 - January 1915'.

vol. xiii, '29. Home Waters Part IV February - July 1915'.

vol.xiv, '30. Home Waters Part V July - October 1915'.

vol. xv, '31. Home Waters Part VI October 1915 - May 1916.'

vol. xvi, '32. Lowestoft Raid April 1916'.

vol. xvii, '33. Home Waters Part VII June - November 1916'.

vol. xviii, '34. Home Waters Part VIII December 1916 - April 1917'.

vol. xix. '35. Home Waters Part IX May - July 1917'.

Unnumbered vol. '13. Grand Fleet August 1914 - November 1916', '14. First Australian Convoy.1914', '16. China Squadron, 1914 (including Emden Hunt', '17. East Indies Squadron, 1914', '20 Cape of Good Hope Squadron, 1914', '18. Dover Command 1'. '19. Tenth Cruiser Squadron I', '25. The Baltic 1914.'

I concur this is a very gratifying thing to find online: bravo to the RAN for their support of history.

According to the Bibliography of Marder's From the Dreadnought to Scapa Flow. (vol.5, pp359-360) there were 39 of these monographs written 1920-1939. One small correction to the above list: vol. ix, '22. Atlantic 1914', '26. Atlantic 1915', '27. Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands'.

The RAN collection is pretty complete: the only missing monographs are:

No. 9: White Sea Station

Mediterranean Staff Papers (Aug 1917-Dec 1918)

Naval Staff of the Admiralty, its work and development

Naval Staff Appreciation of Jutland (withdrawn, 1928)

Archangel River Flotilla 1919

(The last four were not numbered). The Staff Appreciation of Jutland was a very controversial work by Beatty's supporters, and was recalled and pulped after he retired as First Sea Lord (and thus original copies are very rare books indeed).

I don't seem to be able to get the links to work. Could someone who can please post a direct link to 'Dover Command 1'. Thanks in advance. There doesn't seem to be a 'Dover Command 2' or later.

There doesn't seem to be a 'Dover Command 2' or later.

According to Marder, no volume 2 was produced as the subject was covered adequately in the official history.

Jellicoe's copy of the suppressed Naval Staff Appreciation of Jutland is now available from the British Library's website, along with the rest of his papers.

Index to digital version Jellicoe Papers on BL Library

Vol. LIV Add MS 49042 Naval Staff Appreciation of Jutland.

According to 'Jutland: The Naval Staff Appreciation' (Seaforth, 2016), edited William Schliehauf and Stephen McLaughlin, the critical hand written comments on it are in Admiral Frederic Dreyer's hand writing.
