BMoorhouse Posted 1 May , 2003 Share Posted 1 May , 2003 Can anyone tell me the date when Hunter-Weston took command of the 11th Brigade at Colchester? (I believe that this was shortly before the war began.) Brendon Moorhouse.

BMoorhouse Posted 3 May , 2003 Author Share Posted 3 May , 2003 Charles, Thank you for the help - if you don't mind letting me know - what is your source for this? You might be interested that I have an account that when he addressed the 11th Brigade shortly after being given command he told the assembled men that they would be at war with Germany before he gave it up. An interesting observation in Feb '14. Thanks again for your help. Brendon Moorhouse.
charlesmessenger Posted 3 May , 2003 Share Posted 3 May , 2003 Brendon Source is Hart's Army List 1915, which gives appointments at the outbreak of war. I think that by 1914 many people felt that war would come sooner rather than later. Charles
