Guest loudoniii Posted 4 August , 2014 Share Posted 4 August , 2014 Does anyone know where I can find the military service records of those who fought and died in the service of the 4th South African Infantry in World War I?I know that Private Arthur Groves from Cape Town served in the 4th South African Infantry and lost his life in Picardie, France on 9 Oct 1918; his Regimental Service number was 15550.Private Groves' next of kin was Mr W. Atkinson, of Sussex Street, Woodstock, Cape Town, South Africa.I know that Private Groves was awarded at least one World War I medal, and his next of kin were awarded the "Dead Man's Penny" commemorative plaque on his behalf. However I can find no Medal Records or any other service records of Private Groves on Ancestry, or on The National Archives site in Kew, West London, England.I would appreciate any pointers on this.Best regards, Paul R Hynd
LarsA Posted 4 August , 2014 Share Posted 4 August , 2014 You need to find a researcher in South Africa who can access the records there. ATB, Lars
