Funnily enough I visited Tank Cemetery last week and the same question was on my mind. This evening I was chatting to the authors of the Major and Mrs Holt's guidebooks & maps and they had asked about for me and one of the main guides in the area says it's because all the names of the trenches around the Guemappe area began with the letter T such as 'Tommy Trench' etc. Apparently the nearest one to the cemetery was 'Tank Trench' so it's as simple as that.
