WW1period sign

My brother was recently given this sign, apparently the sign was picked up in Worthing, in the 60's and was believed to date from the First World War.

I'm guessing that it could have been from one of the many small chapels that used to be dotted around most towns and villages at that time.

Personally I'm not completely sure that it does date from WW1 but I think that a community hymn singing event would have been more popular during the First World War as many of the soldiers would have been members of the temperance movement and events such as these would have been more common.

It has been overpainted onto another sign which I can make out some of the letters, maybe this will eventually give a better clue to age and location but I have to be careful not to damage it
