Yes! Wiki tells us that she is “often called the American Agatha Christie. Rinehart published her first mystery novel ‘The Circular Staircase’ in 1908, which introduced the ‘had I but known’ narrative style. Rinehart is also considered the source of ‘the butler did it’ plot device in her novel ‘The Door’ (1930), although the exact phrase does not appear in her work.”

Her war experiences are here: https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/14457/pg14457-images.html

I've had a quick peek at some of her writing via that link and she immediately strikes me as being a wonderful writer. To me she has that ability to suck you right into her world and almost feel a part of it. I might have a look into buying that in book form; could make an excellent item on my Xmas list.

Agreed. Her little pen-portrait of Sir John French is revealing and very well done.

With school exams coming up and a recently conferred Deputy House-Captaincy flung upon me, I think it is time to see if anyone is still interested in WiT

A couple of pictures of a chap of whom it could be said went against his family. 20231011_220557.jpg.067c93c490479214fa53132eabdc206c.jpg20231011_220514.jpg.caa72649448575571e2648f2b8542fce.jpg

I wouldn't wish to mislead anyone, so perhaps I should clarify that he didn't fight against his or his family's country of birth.

Nay. He and his family hail from the midlands of England.

Did Bill Lancaster from Birmingham fly with Allingham?

He may have done, I couldn't say. Not him though. My man put the lead into Zeppelin.

Sorry John, didn't get a notification that you had posted.  Yes, it is Egbert Cadbury; from his well known family of Quakers and pacifists. Well done.

No posts for quite some time, I see. Perhaps the thread’s run its course. Things fall apart, after all. Anyway, who might this be ? ? ?

I think I might recognise him but I'll let it run for a while before I jump in.

Yes it’s an easy one, but I thought the old thread could do with some input.

A line will take us hours maybe; yet if it does not seem a moment’s thought, our stitching and unstitching has been naught.
