Spoiled for choice for boffins and profs here, but the egghead I’d like identified is the moustached chap sat third from left:

Think that Frederick Linderman was known as 'The Prof' and along with Tizzard put a lot of resources into the development of radar

A perfect reply! (Apart from the spelling of both names, of course 🙂)

Only if I can be the baby eating bishop of Bath and Wells. I mentioned that you were on top form to my responsible grown up and she said to pass on her best wishes for the season to Mr Plumb. So I have. And seasonal greetings from Owls Towers to all the inmates of WiT? God bless us, every one.

I'm glad you recognised my quote. Wouldn't want to be unjustly persecuted. Many thanks to your responsible adult and yourself for the good wishes. A hearty reciprocation from deepest Brumshire to your good selves and all fellow inmates of the WIT asylum.

Happy festivities to all .

Yes, HNY everyone.

Happy new year to one and all from me too.

As far as I can make out we haven't solved the ink-stained Aussie, and UG's new chap with a definite swagger about him leaves me clueless too.

Is he Arthur Wheen? Wiki tells us that, “In 1929, when Erich Maria Remarque published Im Westen Nichts Neues, Wheen was quick to read it and compare it with his own experiences, which prompted him to do a translation, rendering the title as ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’.

Wild guess. How about Captain Martin-Leake? First warship sunk by a u-boat?

Good thought but this man has a DCM on his rack, not an MM and two bars. If you look at his uniform closely, there'll be a clue.

Is is Squadron Commander Edwin Harris Dunning, DSC RNAS?  The first pilot to land an aircraft on a moving ship.

Afternote:  no - it cannot be with wavy lines rank.

Very good thought, but no VC.
Atleast you've got the right country.
I'll give a hint.. I've done someone with the same distinctions before on this thread.

Is this John King Davis who was part of Shackletons 1907 Expedition to the Antarctic and later commanded an Australian troopship.
