Apparently his father was a Baron of the Russian Empire. I got it! The Baron solved it all, the submarine was E22! That makes this bloke Reginald Thomas Dimsdale

That makes this bloke Reginald Thomas Dimsdale Yes! Wiki: “E22 was involved in experiments in the North Sea to intercept Zeppelins on 24 April 1916. E22 carried two Sopwith Schneider seaplane scouts on her casing. The boat would then submerge in calm waters and the planes would float on the surface. They would then take off and then return to the East coast of England at Felixstowe. The trials were not repeated.” E22 was torpedoed on 25 April 1916, taking 31 of the crew of 33 to the bottom. The two surviving members were taken prisoner by the U-Boat and became POWs. One of those killed was John Cleve Hoskin. His widow Margaret married my Great Uncle William Ross in 1917.
