I'm here again, as usual flying the flag for those who haven't the foggiest. 😊

If you get tired,  I'll spell you for a while.

Me too. I suspect this one will induce a 'doh' moment when it is identified.

Pete.

P.S. Your metaphors bring to mind a joke I heard Bob Monkhouse crack - "What's the difference between roast beef and pea soup? well, you can roast beef.........", The technique of leaving the saucy punchline unsaid was perfected by a chap from Brighton who served in the Royal Sussex in WW1.

PS: yes, computer's back on and I'm in my books again. this day is like THE day: the last day before the the RP should be in..; it is in, i've got the place I want... I thought Boyfriend and I were going to celebrate, but after ONE glass of bubbly and him spending most of the aperitif time on the cellphone, he then fell asleep 5 minutes into a TV series..; and is still sleeping on the couch. Jeee... thanks!!

PSS: a you might have noticed, I'm a bit grumpy!

Sorry Pete, been out all day. Who is the Brightonite? (if that is a word, which I doubt)

No idea who he is but I find this photo strangely intriguing.

It is now, it's on the internet. Thomas Henry Sargent is the answer, he's appeared here before.......

Clue 2:

He is not in uniform, or is he?

Well he looks like he is dressed as a private detective, so I wonder if he might be a spy or something?

And what the heck is that object in the bottom right of the picture? 🤔

No sorry.

Clue 3

He isn't Major Boothroyd.

How about Sir Patrick Quinn, officer of the Légion d'honneur and an officer of l’instuction Publque of France, a chevalier of the Order of the Dannebrog of Denmark, of the Order of Vasa of Sweden, of the Order of St Olav of Norway, of the Order of St Stanislas of Russia, of the Order of the Redeemer of Greece, of the Order of the Crown of Italy and of the Order of Villa Vicosa of Portugal, a member of the first class of the Order of Military Merit of Spain and of the fifth class of the Royal Victorian Order?

He was the Head of Special Branch of the Metropolitan Police during the First war.

Hi Steve

I’m think that is something to do with electric supply, and I’m sure that there was some form of refit in the Royal Navy. Busy looking up if I’m on the right track😬

Fritz Joubert Duquesne? He was a South African spy for Germany, “arrested in New York in 1918 masquerading as an Australian”.
