This is a picture of James Mackenzie, 1st Bn Cameron Highlanders #8855. He was KIA on the first of april 1915 at the age of 23 in Richebourg L'avoue. This is the only picture we've got of him. He looks pretty young. Is that the dress uniform for the Cameron Highlanders or is it some kind of scouts gear ?

The subject of your photograph is indeed wearing a white drill-jacket with glengarry badged to the Cameron Highlanders. Yes, he does look young. He could easily have been enlisted as a boy soldier at the age of 14..

Thanks a lot ! He was my great grandad's brother, unfortunately his service record doesn't seem to have survived, so impossible to track down all of his military history, but it seems he enlisted pretty early.
