Ron Clifton Posted 9 July , 2014 Share Posted 9 July , 2014 Hello John The official publication "Report of the Battles Nomenclature Committee" does not give any "Battles" in progress that day on the Western Front, although there was heavy fighting in Gallipoli on both the Helles and Suvla fronts. There was a minor incident at Hooge on 9th August. However, men were being killed every day by shelling and sniping, even when no "battle" was in progress. I once came across an incident where a man was killed "during the relief" of one unit by another. He was probably a bit careless when climbing out of a trench. alantwo Posted 9 July , 2014 Share Posted 9 July , 2014 John The entry in the 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards War Diary August 1915 simply states: 'Aug 1st to 14th - In trenches GIVENCHY' Regards Alan

Coldstreamer Posted 10 July , 2014 Share Posted 10 July , 2014 not obviously - just meant that the btn was in the trenches - some days the war diary details are scant - could just as much be a shell - trench raid - anything
