HERITAGE PLUS Posted 7 July , 2014 Share Posted 7 July , 2014 Does anyone know exactly where the 6th Scottish Cavalry Depot was at Dunbar? Possibly Lauderdale House/Castle Barracks which was a major Cavalry Depot from the mid- 19th. Century. Dave
Ron Clifton Posted 7 July , 2014 Share Posted 7 July , 2014 Hello Tim In 1914 there were 28 cavalry regiments of the line. Two of the six depots (one in each Command except Aldershot) served six regiments each, and the other four served four regiments each. On mobilisation, fourteen Reserve Regiments were formed, one for each pair of regular regiments. These were similarly distributed, with two or three attached to each depot. Later these 14 regiments were reorgamnised into six. I have not checked thecdetails but I assume that each depot then served one of the new reserve regiments.
