Guest Posted 30 June , 2014 Share Posted 30 June , 2014 The Special Collections and Archives Department at the Glucksman Library, University of Limerick, is pleased to announce the launch of its new website as a contribution to the centenary commemorations of the First World War. It’s a Long Way to Tipperary – An Irish Story of the Great War follows the lives of Captain Marcus Beresford Armstrong of Moyaliffe Castle, County Tipperary, his wife Rosalie and their children Pat, Ione, Jess and Lisalie ‘Tommy’ Armstrong from July 1914 to December 1918 to illustrate the physical, social and emotional impact of the conflict at an individual level and the wider cultural, political and societal changes wrought by the war. The website consists of weekly posts based on diary extracts, correspondence and photographs accumulated by the family during the war years, short articles on different aspects of wartime life, and background notes to family members, their friends and fellow officers. The website is still a work in progress and we would welcome information and comments to deepen and broaden its content. Please visit us at http://longwaytotipperary.ul.ie.
