I'm trying to identify an individual from his marriage certificate.

Walter Nicholls married Barbara Campbell at St Cuthbert's Church, North Shields on August 10th 1915. He was aged 19 years. His address was given as 'The Camp, Backworth'. In the profession field is written: 'Private. 4th Notts & Derbys (coal miner, stoneman)

I can't find any military record to confirm this.

Although his father is listed as Peter Nicholls, Colliery banksman, I cannot associate the two in the 1901 or 1911 census returns. Could he have been named Ernest Walter Nicholls? There is one family who moved around a lot before settling in North Shields. A Peter Nicholls originated in Barrow in Furness and had a son, Ernest, born at the right time in Blackburn.

Many thanks

Alan

There is a MIC for Walter W Nicholls Service number 20987 2nd N&D. Entered France 17/8/15. Discharged 6/3/18.

Also a MIC for Walter Nicholls 2nd N&D , Entered France 26/1/15.

No service records that I can find.

The first would fit with marriage date, but then again I suppose the other one could have back for it.
