6th batt East Lancs War Diary

I wonder if there is anyone could check if there is an entry in the diary for April 1915, which would confirm or not as the case may be, that there was a high rate of Absence Without Leave at this time. I have a court report for four members of this battalion all detained to await military escort on the orders of the commanding officer. The Chief Constable is quoted as saying " I understand there are 150 from this regiment who have absented themselves without leave".

Thanks :)

Jemm, the battalion were still in the UK at that time, they had moved to Alma Barracks, Blackdown (Aldershot) in February 1915 and remained there until the battalion sailed from Avonmouth on 16th June 1915

Hi yes it says they are stationed at Blackdown. Do the diaries only cover details whilst in theater then?

Yes that's right Jemm, I suspect the diary for the 6th battalion starts on the 15/16th June 1915

Ah ok, thanks so other than what is reported in my local paper of the time ie stated by the Chief Constable there's no way to confirm if the number of absentees was true or not. :)

Thanks Jon
