Jonathan D'Hooghe Posted 18 June , 2014 Share Posted 18 June , 2014 H T Leadbitter's MIC shows the service number 59065 and service with the W Yorks. Is it possible totell from this number which battalion he served in? Thank you
woollamc Posted 18 June , 2014 Share Posted 18 June , 2014 Best thing to do is to go to Kew and look at the Medal Rolls but, in the meantime, there are eight West Yorkshires shown on CWGC website in the range of numbers of between 59045 and 59073 (including 59068), all of whom served with 1st/ 5th and Corporal William Marshall, 59063, has service papers on ancestry and was also 1st/ 5th. Hardly conclusive but perhaps good for a working theory?
woollamc Posted 18 June , 2014 Share Posted 18 June , 2014 Sorry - meant to add that there is a public tree on ancestry with Pte H T Leadbitter's MIC attached to it, giving the forenames Henderson Thomas but no other information - although there is a picture of a soldier wearing what looks suspiciously like an RE cap badge and collar dogs, so it may be a case of mistaken identity. Jonathan D'Hooghe Posted 21 June , 2014 Author Share Posted 21 June , 2014 Thank you for your help. There was some family folklore of service with the RE! - Jonathan
