Hi,

I'm trying to find out more information regarding the service and death of Gunner Grice William Crawford 140923, who served with C battery, 14th Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery during the First World War and died on the 14th April 1917.

Although the CWGC site says 14th Brigade, it looks from things I've read like C battery may have ended up in the 4th Brigade by this point in the war?

Looking at the 4th brigade war diary for the 14/04/17, they seem to be out of the line on that date?

Any assistance or information would be appreciated.

Grice died of wounds so it wouldn't be easy to discover when he was wounded and the period between that and death. He is buried at Aubigny en-Artois Communal Cemetery Extension, which was served by three Casualty Clearing Stations at that time, which was also the period of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

You will need to read from early April, probably, but not necessarily wounded in that month ! Presuming that you saw Diary WO95/385 as the Brigade was a 3rd Army resource from 1 April 1917. Not yet digital it seems.

There doesn't appear to be a surviving service record, which would help with a date of wounding.
