Hospital at Courtrai (Kortrijk), Belgium

Hello: After receiving a head wound at Hooge on 6 June 1916, our Grandad --H.N. Causton-- stayed a "long time" (his words) at the hospital at Courtrai.

Would anyone know which hospital this would have been? whether it still exits? if photographic and other archival information survive about that institution? in what sort of conditions our soldier ancestors would have been kept while under hospitalization?

Thanks for any pointers or suggestions,

Alison Causton, in "the valley", Nova Scotia.

Hello,

There were quite a few hospitals in Kortrijk. It's difficult to say in which one he would have stayed as a POW. Photographs of Kortrijk in WW1 (some of them showing British POWs and hospitals) can be found in the book by Egied Vanhoonacker about Kortrijk 1914-1918 (in Dutch).

Hello, Jan:

Thank you for your note and for the book reference ... which I will add to the rapidly growing list of "books, maps and videos that I cannot live without".

Regards,

Alison Causton
