On 10 November 1914 several men of the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers were killed in action near Plugstreet Wood. The casualties included Privates Wilkinson and Lancaster now buried in Prowse Point Cemetery.

Does anyone know exactly where this action took place?

Many thanks

Neil

Hi neil

From War Diary

8 November 1914 Battalion went into trenches at St Yves, reserve trenches. Wood heavily shelled. Cas 1 killed, 15 wounded.

9 and 10 November 1914 Germans broke through trenches held by Worcesters, the men in the trenches having been killed by shell fire. Preparations made for night attack. A & S to make attack, Lan Fus in support. Attack partially successful only, trenches when occupied were enfiladed and had to be abandoned again, other trenches were occupied to watch Germans and prevent any further progress into wood.

Cas 2 killed, Lt. Northover and 15 OR wounded.

Regards,

Graeme
