I Have startied to translate my great grandfather's war diary who was at Ypres and Hellfire corner (Horace Brook - DLI 10th Battalion and Labour Corps - 11614 and 671386) for my father to keep and allow others to see if they wish when finished. It is very delicate and due to the number of years past has come apart and is not in any particular order.

I have attached the first page I have looked at and he talks of a mayor being shot for connecting Allied wires to the Germans but I cannot translate the French town he mentioned and can't find any reference to this through googling. Would anyone know?

He also talks about a barrage which blows the german trenches to atoms and he uses a series of numbers (4-7-9-2) which I think may refer to the calibre of the guns. Would this be correct?

I would like to place my thanks on record for the help The Great War Forum has given me in tracking down details of his service.

Thank you Craig. Much appreciated. Took a look at your blog and website on the 6th and 7th dli and it is very interesting. Had thought of going to the DLI museum to try to find out further details of the 10th. Again thanks for your help.
