Hi

I have been contacted by a lady who wants to read the War Diary relating to her husbands Grandfathers war service, but doesn't know which battalion of the regiment he was in. She has his MIC, (below) and I have found the entry for his SWB, but neither state his regiment. The only other thing I know is that he joined up on 29.12.11, is there anyway from the card/numbers of telling which regiment he was with?

Not much help, but a little snippet;

He appears on depot orders at Shrewsbury dated 27/10/1917 returned to England and taken on strength of depot and posted to B Coy. 6027 Pte Burke J 20-10-1917 It looks as though he has been underlined and S.R. written in pencil.

Hi Ian

This what I have on 6027 Pte. Burke, John, (16 Whitehorse Passage, Shrewsbury)
Enlisted 29/12/1911 into 3rd (S.R.) Battalion K.S.L.I.
Landed in France 25/03/15 and joined the 1/K.S.L.I. (I do not know if he stayed with the 1st Battalion because I ran out of cash to look at all the Victory/British Medal rolls and his roll is one I did not get around to getting, so you will have to see if you can obtain a copy or get someone to have a look at Victory/British medal roll).
Wounded about September 1917 (will have a closer look at casualty list to see if I can narrow down date and possibly Battalion).
Re-numbered after war to 48176
Discharged on 22-07-19 aged 26 years & 135 days under Regt. number 48176.
Info. from 14-15 Star Medal Roll, Ludlow Advertiser 06-10-17, S.W.B. List J/2079/1 & Absent Voters Lists 1918.
