abbrover Posted 28 May , 2014 Posted 28 May , 2014 I have some service papers for a l/Cpl who was tried by FGCM for "when on active service conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that signed the certificate on AFW3079 well knowing it to be untrue." Anyone any idea what AFW3079 is?
Ron Clifton Posted 28 May , 2014 Posted 28 May , 2014 Hello Judith AF is Army Form. I think the W series of forms related to matters of soldiers' pay but I'm not sure exactly what W 3079 is. Other Forum members may be able to help here. But basically he seems to have tried to falsify a record in some way. Ron
Chris Henschke Posted 28 May , 2014 Posted 28 May , 2014 What is the date of the offence? Could it be a transcription error, or indistinct to read? 3078 rather than 3079? AFW 3078 was the Active Service Envelope that had a declaration to be signed on the front and was regularly issued to men. "I certify on my honour that the contents of this envelope refer to nothing but private and family matters."
abbrover Posted 29 May , 2014 Author Posted 29 May , 2014 The offence took place in April 1918 in Italy. It's written on 3 separate documents and is definitely 3079. He was sentence to one years imprisonment with hard labour but the sentence was later suspended.
IPT Posted 29 May , 2014 Posted 29 May , 2014 I think W3079 was the Assessment of Military Conduct and Character form for men being transferred to the reserve. I would have expected this to be completed by an officer describing a man's military character e.g. good, bad, indifferent, and with a brief testimonial. Hey Chris - we missed this one!
abbrover Posted 29 May , 2014 Author Posted 29 May , 2014 He was a Lance Corporal, so would he have been responsible for filling in these forms?
IPT Posted 29 May , 2014 Posted 29 May , 2014 I'm no expert, but I would seriously doubt it. I would expect that the form would be completed by the commanding officer only.
abbrover Posted 29 May , 2014 Author Posted 29 May , 2014 The plot thickens! Does anyone know if there might be more details on any papers held at the NA? (if there are any!)
