nsaspdin Posted 27 May , 2014 Posted 27 May , 2014 This man is taken from a group of 19 officers on a machine gun course in Hayling Island in May 1915. He is Harold Arthur Cutler, who was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers and had received his commission in the Sherwood Foresters in March 1915. His Sam Browne appears a bit new and light coloured leather compared to the other officers, which makes sense. But can someone explain the significance of the lanyard on his left shoulder please? He is the only one with this. Is it somehow connected with his recent commission? Nigel
johnboy Posted 27 May , 2014 Posted 27 May , 2014 Or a pistol? Was a pistol worn on right or left or either?
jay dubaya Posted 27 May , 2014 Posted 27 May , 2014 I'm tempted with squirrels suggestion of a pistol
squirrel Posted 27 May , 2014 Posted 27 May , 2014 Was a pistol worn on right or left or either? Whichever the individual was most comfortable with IMHO.
