RAMC Army Nos 85360-85380

Hello,

This may be a long shot, but has anyone got ancestors in RAMC with service numbers in the range 85360-85380?

I am particularly interested in Richard Stretton no 85371, Frederick Arthur Rule no 85368, Arthur Walding no 85376, Albert Tortoiseshell no 85375 and Walter Parish no 85365.

Also Charles Wagstaff no 85379, John Parkinson no 85364 and Sidney Nicholl no 85363.

My great grandfather, Herbert Smithies from Lancashire, had the number 85370 and I am trying to piece together his war service. If possible, I would like to know where the men named above served, as it may give me a better idea as to my great greatfather's war record. There is no service record available for him. Some of his service was within the UK.

From your list, 85387 Arthur Walding enlisted 17/10/1916 and was discharged after 115 days due to epilepsy.

You may have already seen these but the best I can do are 85356 Leonard John Fuller joined 18/10/1916, 85358 AEWJ Gladwell joined 18/10/1916 and 85397 Charles George Jackson joined 19/10/1916. All originally joined 35 coy at Aldershot.. A lot of these men seem to have had one eye, one blind eye, crippling stammers etc. 85360 James Herbert Hewitt also had defective vision.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply.

I had not seen the ones you mentioned. Though they do not seem very promising at the moment, it is often the case that the information can be more useful at a later date.

Ref Arthur Walding, I have seen his discharge note, it shows him having been in H Coy RAMC which I think was based in Blackpool.
