KatharineMH Posted 26 May , 2014 Posted 26 May , 2014 Can anyone help? My husband's Grandfather, Robert Charles Harris b.1891 was in the Manchester Regiment no. 34282 and then the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment No 29299. He was injured at some point in his service, though I am not sure when. He survived the War. Do you know which Battalions these related to? I have seen his medal index card, but it does not provide that information. Would you have any idea of date of enlistment? Thank you, Katharine
Medaler Posted 27 May , 2014 Posted 27 May , 2014 Hi, Glancing through Silver War Badge Records, 34283 in the Manchesters has an enlistment date of 09/12/1915, and 34337 on 10/12/1915. So his Manchester number looks likely to date from 08 or 09/12/1915 (Wednesday and Thursday respectively). No clues there about the battalion though. A look-up on the medal rolls would possibly sort that for you, they should be at Kew. The marks on his MIC would seem to indicate that his medals will be named to his Manchester Regiment persona. Ref on MIC is H/2/101 B14 page 1925. Had a quick check for both service and pension records but found nothing. Cheers, Mike
8055Bell Posted 27 May , 2014 Posted 27 May , 2014 Katherine, The Manchester number could have related to many Battalions - and possibly more than one for Robert. Hopefully themonsstar will pop in with an answer from the Medal Rolls. Also Try http://www.themanchesters.org/forum/index.php Tim
KatharineMH Posted 27 May , 2014 Author Posted 27 May , 2014 Mike, Thank you for your reply and for looking R C Harris up for me-I have not been able to find anything except his Medal card either. I will have a look at the Medal rolls when I next go to Kew, but it will not be for a while. Tim, thank you also. Katharine
