Jim Strawbridge Posted 23 May , 2014 Posted 23 May , 2014 This photograph shows a soldier with his younger brother. The brother is wearing an armband which I suspect indicates that he was working on important government workthat necessitated his staying in his employment rather than being called up for military service. Can anyone elaborate on this, please ?
centurion Posted 23 May , 2014 Posted 23 May , 2014 Is it possibly a Derby scheme arm band - issued to men who had joined but not yet been called for service.?
Stoppage Drill Posted 23 May , 2014 Posted 23 May , 2014 Mentioned here http://www.1914-1918.net/derbyscheme.html
centurion Posted 23 May , 2014 Posted 23 May , 2014 As seen here http://www.foxhallmilitaria.com/ww1-british-derby-scheme-armband/ And does appear to be what he is wearing
Jim Strawbridge Posted 24 May , 2014 Author Posted 24 May , 2014 Thank you Centurion and Stoppage Drill. Problem solved.
