David_Blanchard Posted 19 May , 2014 Posted 19 May , 2014 Apart from the two books in the title of this post, are there any other books which deal with the night attack of 14 July on the Somme, that are recommended? David
Terry Carter Posted 20 May , 2014 Posted 20 May , 2014 I think an officer with the 100 Brigade MGC wtote of his experiences. Cannot look him up until I get home from work. There is also. 100 Bde MGC war history written by the same officer. As I am writing this the name Hutchings springs to mind Terry
Robert Dunlop Posted 20 May , 2014 Posted 20 May , 2014 David, does the second title refer to the Battleground Europe series that covers this attack? Robert
David_Blanchard Posted 20 May , 2014 Author Posted 20 May , 2014 Yes, it is the same book in the BE series. I think the author is Col Seton Hutchison who was in the MGC David
Ellis1918 Posted 21 May , 2014 Posted 21 May , 2014 "Of those we loved" by I L Dick Read gives a first hand account of his experience at Bazentin Ridge with the 110th Brigade ( 6th , 7th, 8th , 9th battns Leic Reg ) "The Tigers " by Matthew Richardson also covers the same action
David_Blanchard Posted 21 May , 2014 Author Posted 21 May , 2014 I have both books, but I overlooked the role of the Leicestershire Brigade in the battle. Thanks for the recommendation, David
