Guest mjeastwood Posted 16 October , 2004 Posted 16 October , 2004 Trying to research more on this Soldier who is my partner's Great-Grandfather. Regimental Number 266942. Quite an interesting chap as he served in both the Boer War and WW1. All help gratefully appreciated.
channelhopper Posted 16 October , 2004 Posted 16 October , 2004 Hi There The Yorkshire Regiment new numbers 265001 to 290000 were allocated to the 18th Bn Yorkshire Regiment. The battalion was formed in Clacton on the 01/01/17 and were part of 222nd Bde. They remained in the UK throughout the war. Peter
Guest mjeastwood Posted 16 October , 2004 Posted 16 October , 2004 Peter, Many thanks for the info - sort of backs up the info from the medal roll which shows no campaign medals or theatres of war. Some strange reference number on the bottom which I can't quite decipher. I've attached this for info. Many thanks once again

channelhopper Posted 16 October , 2004 Posted 16 October , 2004 Although no medals he appears to have been awarded a wound badge. Have you tried to obtain his records from the PRO ? Many thanks also to Bob for the info Peter
Guest mjeastwood Posted 17 October , 2004 Posted 17 October , 2004 Thanks to everyone for the info. Luckily his records were available at the PRO and Jenny has got copies of these - I'll check and see what they say. All information given so far on here was unknown and greatly appreciated Thanks Martin
