KIRKY Posted 15 May , 2014 Share Posted 15 May , 2014 Searched Ancestry for H Jewell 32980 but no trace , now not sure if RAF included? Are they? tony
Admin spof Posted 15 May , 2014 Admin Share Posted 15 May , 2014 Tony It doesn't appear so. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/raf-rfc-rnas.htm If an individual in the RAF qualified for medal(s) after 1 April 1918, the only place you will find details about his medal entitlement will be on his service record. If he had previous RFC service http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/royalflyingcorpsairmen.htm Search the First World War Medal Index Cards (WO 372) on our website (£There may be a charge for accessing this information. Searching indexes may be free.) to find details of campaign medalscampaign medal - a medal awarded to a person who took part in a particular military campaign awarded to some members of the RFC and RAF (Royal Air Force). RFC airmen who served overseas in 1916 or later had their medals issued by the Air Ministry, not the War Office.
Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 15 May , 2014 Share Posted 15 May , 2014 Tony - this isn't an answer to your question, but go here > http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/medal-index-cards-ww1.htm and enter AIR FORCE in the search box for "corps". Result may surprise you. Harry Jewel is here > http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/search/advanced-search > enter 32980 as the keyword, then scroll down and in "search within" put AIR79 in the first ref box. PM me if you have any problems. Tom

Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 17 May , 2014 Share Posted 17 May , 2014 Cheers Tom , hope you are well, when are you on Somme next? Tony? Tony - Obviously cant PM you. Things have picked up since Dec / Jan and are back to what passes as normal No immediate plans for the Somme though - rumours that I will be contributing to the 1/7 poetry-fest this year are unfounded. What happened to your and Dan's plans for a charity rally - happening or not ? Tom
