182 CEF Posted 15 October , 2004 Posted 15 October , 2004 Well for all those "hard core" WW1 fellows out there you can still buy Hard Tack ( Hard Bread, or what ever you want to call them) In Canada a company call Purity out of Newfoundland still makes them. I have eaten these things many times during US Civil War re-enactments. The bag they come in has differant ways to serve these things. I prefer to eat them hard ( after braking them with a hammer, rifle butt, axe, ect. This company has been making them since the 1840s the same way. For the weak of heart ( or low stress guys) you can buy "sweet bread" looks the same but not as hard. Only the Newfies can keep a company running doing this!!! I asked how long this will 'KEEP" in the bag under the sink. I was told that if it is damp than only 2 or 3 years!! Trust me I believe them!!! Dean Owen Whitby Ontario Canada

(or at least you could about 10 years ago - feeling old now!!! ) Dave.
