Under age soldiers, medal entitlement?

If a young man enlisted, and went overseas, and then was found to be underage and sent home, would he still be entitled to the medals, that he would qualify for if he was old enough, in the first place?

Yes, I have a medal pair to a young man who served in France with The Royal Canadian Regiment, was identified as under-aged and repatriated all the way home to mother.

My 16 year 11 month (when he landed in France) old soldier deservedly received a trio including a 1914 Star. (Mind you I don't know if he was found out.)

Hi Garth

I have a relative, Albert Royston, who joined the Sherwood Foresters as a sixteen year old in 1914. He went to France in 1915 and was killed at Gommecourt on 1st July 1916. As far as his MIC is concerned he was still eligible for a 1914/15 Star trio

Regards

John
