Chris_Baker Posted 9 May , 2014 Share Posted 9 May , 2014 These might give some ideas - http://www.1914-1918.net/GoogleEarth_intro.html. Look at the Ypres, 'Forgotten Front' and Loos sections.

Renaat1986 Posted 14 May , 2014 Share Posted 14 May , 2014 This car route can be interesting. Maybe you can get some inspiration and make your own route to do by bike. http://shop.westtoer.be/en/product/autoroute-14-18-pionier
HenryTheGerman Posted 19 May , 2014 Share Posted 19 May , 2014 If youhave some interest in former German sites, you should pay a visit to Menen where there is "Menen Wald" Cemetary (about 48.000 fallen troops in row graves). From there you can continue towards Kortrijk. In Marke you can visit the former German airfields where the "Jastas" from the Red Baron Richthofen were located. There are no buildings left but "Bethune Castle" where Richthoven had his quarter and where the "Offizierskasino" was. The northern airfield (formerly "Marckebeeke") is still open (arable land) while the southern strip (south of the railway line = "Marcke") is built up. Sniper Snoop Posted 21 May , 2014 Author Share Posted 21 May , 2014 Yes, I have pionier route already in my mind! I can use some places out of that. And about Courtrai, i think this is not a good idea for this trip, but for another trip. Battle of the Leie trip later in the future. I will do this with Waregem, Bissegem and much more. But thanks! Hedley Malloch Posted 30 May , 2014 Share Posted 30 May , 2014 Wambrechies and Quesnoy have German cemeteries. Quesnoy Communal has some British 1914 casualties. Wervik Sud has a German cemetery which included headstones of some army musicians. The chateau in Weviik Sud was the military hospital in which the gassed and blinded Hitler learned of the war's end, the park of the chateau has the memorial to the German soldiers formerly interred there. I have cycled this area many times. My advice would be to use the tow-path of the Deule which links most of these sites.

There's very little use in reviving threads which are dead for 7 years...
