Lancashire Fusiliers Raw Edge Brodie

Hello, I have recently acquired this (raw edge) Brodie in France but I am not a specialist on this model and would be interested in some more info on it.

It has brown leather insides and V/026 or (020) stamped on the inside rim.

On the inside leather there is U5E553 or (115E553) in pen? possibly a army number?

Any help will be much appreciated

Regards

That's a great find!

I can't offer much help other than it could possibly be an Officers private purchase due to the non standard leather liner instead of the usual oil skin?

My thinking also.

Thanks 18th Battalion and David.

I also wondered that but I wasn't shore of it being a privet purchase helmet, as these early models are often quite different from the later type B helmets..

(Also I would like to ad that the shell is not magnetic).

Jeff.

One other passing thought is that rather than a 'private purchase' per say, the helmet might just have had the officer to whom it was issued (assuming it was an officer), get someone to remove the original liner and put one of his own into it - I note it still seems to have a standard chinstrap. The helmets were never regarded as the most comfortable things, with a tendency to slip to one side when the wearer tried to run, so you can well imagine someone trying to improve upon the liner.
