Hello doc. That little bag means more than medals to the man or a death plaque/scroll. Much more. I can't make out the details, is he a relation of yours? Regards, Paul .

This one looks unissued. Bought from an antiques shop in Honiton, Devon. Regards, Paul.

If I'm honest, I'd have to say that 'Jeep stencil' font looks WW2, at least post-WW1, to me. Still a good thing mind.

Here's my example to a Pte G/39967 Charles Arthur Marchant of the 25th Middx. His MIC is not much help, yet that and the Medal Roll for the 25th show his entitlement to a pair.

The 25th was in Hong Kong from December 1916, moving to Vladivostok (quite a change!) in August 1918. Siberia until September 1919.

Cheers,

GT.

Here is one in my collection attributed to Pte T W Bell W Yorks Regt captured 25th April 1918. The chintz pattern material redolent of the cottage industry that produced them. His glazed name label now completely worn so no details are legible. The contents I have shown previously on the forum were his souvenirs of captivity.

Regards to all

Mark

Hello GT. Age of bag could well be post Great War. I've no Idea when the font used came into existence but I like the term Jeep Stencil . I'm not sure how it has been applied but it does seem an unnecessary effort when the usual details panel is blank. Even the panel stitching is red and green which I take to be appropriate for KRRC. Regards, Paul.

  • 1 year later...

Another use of a military stencil font on a period item.

I'm now thinking that the font used on my bag may be OK for period, copied from the stencil. Regards, Paul.
