MaureenE Posted 23 April , 2014 Share Posted 23 April , 2014 Web link “Indian Infantry Regiments - World War I” by Paul Watson September 23, 2007 from indianmilitaryhistory.org http://indianmilitaryhistory.org/regiments/Indian%20Infantry%20WW1%20-%201st%20through%2030th.pdf (Note: this link may not be accessible on all browsers, but is accessible on Google Chrome) This information is taken from the book ''The Indian Army in the Great War 1914-1918: Cavalry Regiments, Infantry Battalions, Mountain Artillery Batteries, and Sappers & Miners Units'' by Paul Watson 2008 ISBN-13: 978-0982054123 This book appears to be out of print, but a Google search brought up at least two websites where you can order an E edition. http://www.easons.com/p-2034130-the-indian-army-in-the-great-war-1914-1918.aspx http://prod-www.kobobooks.com/ebook/The-Indian-Army-Great-War/book-iAu20uN5ZEGGTIeLFsrdPA/page1.html (disclaimer: I know nothing about these two websites) Cheers Maureen
Sepoy Posted 23 April , 2014 Share Posted 23 April , 2014 Hi cazack The Indian Corps in France gives a good description of the early part of the war. Glen Colonel Merewether's excellent book can be downloaded (free of charge) here https://archive.org/details/indiancorpsinfra00ltco Gordon Corrigan's Sepoys in the Trenches — The Indian Corps on the Western Front 1914–15 (ISBN 1-86227-354-5) is also worth finding. MaureenE Posted 23 April , 2014 Share Posted 23 April , 2014 Thanks Sepoy for the Archive.org link. However, the book file format seems to be different to most books on Archive.org and I can't open the actual book. (iMac, using Safari and Google Chrome). Do you know if a specific plug-in is required? Edit: Have since found this link on Archive.org "The BitTorrent protocol is now the fastest way to download items from the Archive" https://archive.org/details/bittorrent. Does anyone have a preference for one of these downloads? Another book available on Archive.org (free download) With the Indians in France by General Sir James Willcocks 1920 Archive.org https://archive.org/details/withindiansinfra00will Cheers Maureen

cazack Posted 6 May , 2014 Author Share Posted 6 May , 2014 I have an enquiry in regards to a Indian regiment. On the victory medal it states the regiment as the 20th infantry, would this regiment be the 20th Duke of Cambridge's Own Punjab Infantry? regards Caz

bushfighter Posted 13 May , 2014 Share Posted 13 May , 2014 Caz Greetings For what it is worth, a book of mine should be published next year in India. It will describe the activities and military operations of Sepoys in the Great war 'Sideshows'. The scope is from Tsing Tao to German Kamerun.
